Welcome to the Human Library
The Human Library does not acquire paper book, (hardcopies), but people who intend to share their stories and experience with the aim to fight against prejudice and empower diversity.
Since October 2009 a group of volunteers put in force the initiative of ''Human Library'' in Greece with the collaboration of the relevant global network of Human Libraries based in Denmark, where the initiative had been created ten years ago.
In its simplest structure, ''Human Library'' is a kind of a mobile library that encourages interaction and dialogue, through the simplicity and the need and will to communicate. This library though, does not lend books, but our fellow volunteers are put ''on loan'' to expose themselves in order to be read, with the intention to open a dialogue with the audience and more precisely with their readers about today racism in Greece, in an effort to break the stereotypes and fight our prejudice. The shelves of the Human Library offer to the readers ''human books'', their stories and experiences. Evenmore: it offers, their will to communicate all the above in a way in which diversity is encouraged.
The places that we choose for the events of our ''human readings'' are always accessible to people with disability. Moreover, the interpretation in the Greek sign language is available as well as a catalogue of the human books in Braille, also written in big font as well as there are available Human Dictionaries (for the process of interpreting) in Farsi, Dari and in English.
Come over to read those stories that challenge you, hardens you and intrigues you. Come to the place where the stories come to life....
